William Kentridge – Studio visit

Leading South African visual artist and director William Kentridge guides us through his studio and talks to us about his work Waiting for the Sibyl. How often are you invited into not only the creative space, but also the creative mind of one of the generation’s eminent artists?

The chamber opera Waiting for the Sibyl, which tells the story of the Cumaean Sybil, priestess of an oracle of Apollo, serves as a multidimensional visual meditation on the meaning of life, destiny, and human consciousness. A 43-minute work for three dancers and six singers, the opera was created in collaboration with choir director and dancer Nhlanhla Mahlangu and composer Kyle Shepherd. It unfolds in five short scenes, delineated by the opening and closing of the curtain.
